While a majority of California's urban water agencies have enough water supply to last through seven months of drought, nearly 20 percent believe they could be facing shortages as reported in the San Diego Union Tribune by Hayley Smith. The CA Department of Water Resources conducted its first annual water supply and demand assessment survey representing 90 percent of supply. Notable in the survey results is that municipalities are expecting enough water supply "as long as conservation efforts continue." However conservation efforts have limits, and agencies are voicing concern. For example, Las Virgenes Municipal Water District agency spokesman Mike McNutt stated,"we have not improved our water situation. It's not for lack of trying, but we haven't gotten any additional supplies that are coming in and... there's not been any precipitation that's been helping us."
