IPHROS brine and mining key minerals for EV batteries

In addition to clean water and stored energy as IPHROS outputs, the resultant brine is rich in key minerals used for EV battery technology. Rather than mine minerals such as lithium or cobalt from land or the seabed, it is possible to extract minerals from brine. Challenges remain, however the paradigm shift to utilize the output brine as a mineral source is a pragmatic approach. In the link below is a summary of research by the SEA lab at Cornell University headed by Professor Maha Haji, one of the co-authors of the original MIT publication regarding IPHROS.
