According to the U.S. Department of Energy's Waterpower Technologies Office and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) the inaugural Hydropower Collegiate Competition (HCC) was kicked off April 7, 2022. In partnership with the Hydropower Foundation, the HCC was initiated to stimulate "interdisciplinary teams to offer unique solutions to complex hydropower challenges" (1).
Also noteworthy was the recent kick off of the U.S. Department of Energy's Water Power Technologies Office's Marine Energy Collegiate Competition (MECC). "This competition is designed to challenge interdisciplinary teams of undergraduate and graduate students to offer unique solutions to the burgeoning marine energy industry that can play a vital role in powering the blue economy" (2).
IPHROS and IPHROCES are at the nexus of the two competitions - hydropower and marine energy as well as clean water.
