The headline above from the San Diego UT article by Hayley Smith says it all. New data from the California State Water Resources Control Board indicates water usage actually increased 2.6% in January 2022. Record snowfall in the Sierra in December 2021 has been followed by "record-shattering" dryness in January and February. "These numbers are a good wake-up call that we need to buckle up and get going" was the quote by conservation supervisor Charlotte Ely. Some experts stated that the state's water managers have not done enough to prepare for and respond to the current conditions. Devin Upadhyay, chief operating officer of the Metropolitan Water District stated, "I want to be clear: This is not a drill. This is the real deal. It is a drought emergency."
